School Social Worker

School Social Workers are trained mental health professionals with a degree in social work who provide services related to students' social, emotional, and life adjustment to school and society. We are licensed by the Department of Public Instruction to work in the school environment. One of the primary roles of a School Social Worker is to provide outreach services to the homes; thus establishing a reciprocal relationship between the home and school and serving as the link between the two, working with parents, guardians, teachers, and other school officials to ensure students reach their academic and personal potential.

Did you know that starting in kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school? Missing 10% (or about 18 days) can make it harder to learn to read. Students can still fall behind if they miss just a day or two days every few weeks. Being late to school may lead to poor attendance. Absences can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help children catch up. Please ask for help if you're having trouble getting your child to school.
